Im not going to bring an actual diaper bag to the hospital because Kaiser gives you a pretty decent one that 2 of my girlfriends (Meg & Brandi) currently use and have given good reviews on haha. Im also not bringing much to the hospital for the baby because I plan on cleaning kaiser out of house and home when it comes to blankets, diapers, wipes, mesh panties, that numbing spray everyone raves about...etc. haha.Okay so this is what I am packing in the token "hospital bag"
1) The baby book. I have read that they will stamp the babies feet in it for you when they do the birth certificate and stuff. I have had a few girlfriends do this and said it worked out perfectly.
2) Two pairs of black yoga pants. I dont want to lounge around in the nasty hospital gowns the entire stay because I am a pretty modest person and I just hate how you hang out all over the place on those things. With yoga pants I will be comfortable, I can even sleep in them if needed, and they are forgiving on your waiste. So if I still have a giant gut while in the hospital (which from what I read, it said dont expect to look less then 5mos pregnant after birth lol) I wont have to worry about the pants fitting. Also if I end up with a c-section then I can roll them up above or down below my incision and they wont put pressure on it. I chose black because of the whole bloody mess issue.
3) Two nursing bras. (One normal one, one sleeping soft one). I bought the sleeping one a size or so to big because I know when your milk comes in your chest gets a lot bigger. I am waiting until the last moment to get a regular one because I have no idea how my chest is going to react.
4) Two regular cotton short sleeve t-shirts that are nursing accessible. I got a bunch of plain shirts at Old Navy on sale for like 3.99 each in v-neck and slightly larger because I will be pulling them down/lifting them up to nurse. I figure I will feel less frumpy in a normal shirt then if I just bring my maternity shirts with me.
5) Two nursing tank tops. I got some for christmas that I will bring with me to wear under my t-shirts and to sleep in and stuff incase Im not comofrtable in a bra yet or just for some extra coverage.
6) A handful of hair ties and bobby pins and a few elastic headbands. I have crazy curly hair so the last thing I want is to have a fro in my face while sweating and pushing a baby out lol. So before I go to the hospital I will shower and pull everything back in a tidy, but comfortable "out of my face" style. Nothing that looks BAD because I will have pictures taken of me throughout the process (all tactfull of course lol).
7) Three pairs of socks that I can just throw away as they get dirty. I get cold feet easily and I dont want to walk on the hospital floor barefoot (ewww) so Ill have some socks with me that I cna just toss if they get messy. It will be easier then dealing with bloody slippers and stuff haha.
8) One zip up hoodie. Just because I get cold and stuff. Just incase I need to throw something on me to keep me warm.
9) My personal bag of tolietries (which include): Widetoothed comb to brush my hair in the shower, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, face wash, makeup (the bare essentuals... tinted moisturized, powder, blush, mascara), shampoo & conditioner, detangler. These things are all pretty self explanitory.
10) My digital camera, extra batteries, camera USB cord. I will have my lap top with me so I want to be able to load up pictures during my "down time" after she is born and Im to excited to sleep haha. Maybe Ill blog about my birth story while in the hospital haha.
11) My laptop and lap top charger w/ some DVDs. This is more for David then me while we are in the hours of labor... and then for entertainment purposes afterwards.
11) My cellphone and cellphone charger. Cant leave home without it haha!
12) Flat sandals to wear home. (Ill wear them there too haha) Just because I dont know if my feet will swell, and I wont want to be bending down to tie shoes and stuff.
13) A shower towel. The ones in the hospital bathroom when I went to L&D a month ago were dingy and thing. I have LONG hair and Im not a size 2... there is a lot to dry off lol. So ill just bring my own towel to dry my body and stuff and use their dinky one for my hair or whatever.
14) Non-perishable snacks. Just for like afterwards or for David. Crackers, juice boxes, etc.
15) Stool softener. I hear your first bowel movement after birth can be pretty close to giving birth all over again haha so many many mothers have told me to take an ALL NATURAL stool softener directly after birth so that when the time comes to actually poop... I wont die again lol.
16) A pack of throw away hanes underwear. The hospital gives you these mesh panties but just incase I dont like how they feel/fit I will bring some throw away underwear for while I am there.
17) Nipple Cream. I plan on nursing and i get mixed results when trying to find out if the hospital provides you with nipple cream or not so Ill just bring a small tube IN CASE. Im not going to bring my pump in though because I know they can give me one to use in the hospital if I need it.
This is whats going with us to the hospital for the baby:
1) An installed and inspected infant car seat. I called and made an appointment for mid April with the Westminster CHP inspector. Its free and since 85% of carseats are not properly installed... Id rather just drive the 15 minutes and get it checked. It could mean the difference between my daughter living, and going flying thru the windshield. Plus, they educate you on how to properly strap them in and stuff. Its something thats important to me since I know a few babies first hand who have been injured or died in accidents because they werent strapped in right or the seat wasnt installed right. Freaks me out.
2) Her coming-home outfit (pink jogging suit with black onesie). I ll bring a few side snap onesies to the hospital just incase she needs them but my understanding is they mostly wear the hospital shirt and a diaper while we are there and just get swaddled.
3) A warm blanket. This is mostly for the ride home and for me to cuddle with her in.
So what do you think? Any suggestions?
We are going to the hosptial the 3rd week of April for a private/personal "hospital tour" to get a good idea of where we will be and stuff. Its more for David to feel comfortable and start getting "acclimated" to the situation. He is not good in medical settings so we need to get him warmed up for the big day. I have seen the hosptial, espeecially L&D and Post Partum over at Lakeview and at Sand Canyon from when Jill worked there.
Which reminds me... She starts work again on April 12th! So I will for sure have her with me at the hospital to advocate for me and give me lots of perks haha. Things are happening, and quickly!

Oh my goodness that bag is super cute! Ive been looking everywhere for a zebra print/ hot pink bag for vacations and stuff.
ReplyDeleteOh and if your going to be wearing your own clothes and u have a v-birth you may want to bring more then 2 pairs of pants.. its a complete disgusting mess.
