So my mother found an adorable dog that needed to be rescued. She told us how great he was, how he didn’t bark and he was a fun active dog that was potty trained and everything. We drove up to Atascadero to pick up the new member of our family... only to find that this dog had apparently over dosed on red bull and Ritalin. haha. After 20 minutes of the HUGE dog jumping all over us, peeing on the carpet, running around rampant, chewing on us, and then escaping by scaling 3 fences.... we realized that this beautiful, but insane dog was not going to work. We didn’t have the time to break him, and we didn’t feel it would be safe to leave him alone with grandpa. Grandpa like to work outside and the dog would be outside and if he jumps all over us, how would we keep him from jumping on grandpa and knocking him down again? That’s too much risk. So we declined and beautiful Nash went back to where he came from.
My mom agreed with our decision, but she felt really bad for us that we still had no dog. She told me that she had learned of a litter of min-pins that would be ready in December. I asked her that if she got us one, i would buy one to so that they could play together. Well, shortly before we were getting ready to make the trip up to Atascadero once again my mom let me know that the min pins were unavailable and that we would be getting miniature daschunds. Baby weenies!!
We arrived with my mother and sister in the middle of no where outside a shack on what looked to be a plantation at one time. When the lady who owned them arrived, she set down a box full of furry little things. David picked up a puffy light brown puppy and I picked up a sleek short hair tiny puppy. We ooh'ed and aww'ed over them and played. We put both of these dogs down only to pick up different ones. However, we both went back to the first ones we grabbed. My short haired black one was truly a baby. He was calm and wanting to sleep. He needed to be fed with a bottle and kept warm. David’s however must have run straight out of the womb because that dog never stops for a break haha. He is feisty but playful, he can get on your last nerve but all he has to do is look at you with those big green puppy eyes of his and bam he steals your heart again.
Here are some pictures of our babies:
We choose their names from the movie 300. David’s dog is the puffy brown one, and his name is Leonidas. We call him “Leo” for short. My dog is the small black one and his name is “Xerxes” [zer-seas]. We call him “Zerk” for short. Leo is a crazy Spartan, and Zerk thinks he is a Persian God but really, he is just a skinny mini haha.
They are a lot of work and have really opened our eyes to how much time we take up doing lazy things. I definitely think that if you want to have kids, you should start off with a pet. We HAVE to wake up with them early every morning so they can be fed and use the restroom. We HAVE to buy them their food and needs. We have to play with them and love them. We have to take care of them because they depend on us. Its been a lot of fun and I hope you guys can all meet them soon!!
